Fine Gael is expressing renewed optimism today following an opinion poll indicating that the alternative coalition is more popular than the Fianna Fáil-PD alliance.

The Irish Times poll puts combined support for Fine Gael and Labour three points ahead of the outgoing coalition with two weeks to go to the election.

Enda Kenny's popularity rating has also jumped six points to 47%.

Fine Gael's directors of elections, Frank Flannery, said today that the figures were very positive for the opposition and would see Mr Kenny become Taoiseach if they were repeated on polling day.

Meanwhile, Fine Gael is focusing on its health policies today, promising to provide GP visits for all children under the age of five and free health insurance for all under 16s if it gets elected to power.

The party says its policies will transform the health system and support all families.
