Memorial to Miami Showband members unveiled by Taoiseach

The Taoiseach has unveiled a memorial sculpture in honour of the three members of the Miami Showband who were killed by a loyalist gang.

The ceremony took place outside the old National Ballroom at Dublin's Parnell Square this afternoon.

Musicians Fran O' Toole, Brian McCoy and Tony Geraghty were shot dead following an ambush outside Newry on July 31, 1975.

Two members of the UVF also died at the scene when a bomb they were carrying exploded prematurely.
