A man was tonight charged with causing the death of a father of three in a road accident in Co Down in which his children were injured.

The 35-year-old arrested after the fatal accident on the Ardglass Road outside Downpatrick late on Saturday night has been accused of causing death by dangerous driving.

He is due to appear in Downpatrick Magistrates Court tomorrow morning, said police. He will face a series of other motoring charges.

Michael Molloy, 36, from the Downpatrick area died as a result of the accident.

His partner remains in a serious condition in hospital.

His three sons – aged six, four and one – have been detained in hospital with a variety of injuries including broken bones – however their conditions were said not to be life threatening.

Police continue to appeal for any witnesses to the crash to contact them.
