Revenue uncovers 13,500 bogus non-resident accounts

The Revenue Commissioners have identified 13,500 bogus non-resident bank accounts owned illegally by Irish citizens.

The Revenue Commissioners have identified 13,500 bogus non-resident bank accounts owned illegally by Irish citizens.

It said the accounts contained the names of around 30,000 people with Irish addresses and were traced through information supplied by financial institutions under High Court orders.

All the individuals identified will be sent letters seeking payment of any unpaid taxes, interest and penalties by December 17.
