The wife and daughter of the brother of “Chemical Ali” al-Majid, one of the most notorious figures of the former regime, were found slain today at their home in this northern city, police said.
The wife of Hashim Hassan al-Majid had been shot and the daughter strangled, police Capt. Samir Mohammed said.
No arrests have been made, and their names were unavailable.
Al-Majid was a cousin of Saddam Hussein and brother of Ali Hassan al-Majid, also known as “Chemical Ali” for his alleged role in the gassing of Kurds in the 1980s.
Chemical Ali was arrested in 2003 after the fall of Saddam’s regime and is on trial for the Kurdish massacres.
Hashim Hassan al-Majid held various posts in Saddam’s government, including two governorships.
Local residents said he was arrested after the collapse of the regime.
