EU Foreign Ministers to re-assess aid commitements to Egypt

EU Foreign Ministers will meet in Brussels today to discuss the ongoing crisis in Egypt.

Nearly 900 people have died in a week of clashes between security forces and Islamist supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The bloodshed peaked in Cairo last Wednesday when the army stormed two camps of supporters of the ousted President Mohamed Morsi.

The arrest of the supreme guide to the Muslim Brotherhood, Mohamed Badie, yesterday has also raised fears of fresh unrest.

In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Ministers will discuss what the EU can do to help in bring an end to the bloodshed, encouraging efforts to resume dialogue and promoting a return to a democratic process.

European Ministers will also re-assess aid commitments to the country.
