Archbishop Martin calls for protection of all life

The Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin has called for the protection of all life saying every human life is unique and must be fostered and cherished.

His comments come ahead of a demonstration by Pro-life and Pro-choice protesters who will take to the streets of Dublin this afternoon to make their opinions known in relation to the new abortion legislation.

The Health Minister James Reilly will table a number of amendments to the Protection of Life during Pregnancy Bill next week, while junior Minister Lucinda Creighton has proposed several restrictive amendments to the legislation as well.

Minister of State for European Affairs Lucinda Creighton has formally proposed several amendments to the abortion legislation.

Ms Creighton, wants a care pathway for women presenting as suicidal.

The junior minister also called for an advocate for the preservation of the life of the unborn to be nominated by the Attorney General and she wants the proposed prison term for those who transgress the Bill to be reduced from fourteen years down to five.

A pro-life rally gets underway at the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin City Centre this afternoon.

And pro-choice demonstrators in Galway say they will hold a protest outside the office of Galway east TD Colm Keaveny, because he objected to the suicide clause in the legislation.
