Highfield emerged as the most consistent team in the AIB League’s Division Three as they held off a late charge from Corinthians, to claim the league’s top spot in a 26-17 win at Woodleigh Park.
Greystones look a strong bet for promotion after they ran in five tries in a 31-10 demolition of now-relegated Naas at Dr Hickey Park.
The Wicklow side’s home form has been excellent all season with seven wins from eight – their only loss coming on November 29, 22-18 against Highfield.
City of Derry will have much to do at the seaside venue in their semi-final clash.
Wanderers finished the season a frustrating four points away from a play-off spot, as they scored four converted tries in a 28-3 hammering of Old Wesley at Donnybrook.
Queen’s were also left kicking themselves as Clonakilty accounted for them 12-3 at Dub Lane, meaning Ards nab the final play-off position by just two points.
Instonians ended a disappointing season by their standards, on a high note by posting a 11-0 victory away to promotion candidates Ards.
The home side’s second successive defeat did not keep them out of the play-offs, and Ards will take on table toppers Highfield on May 1 at Woodleigh.
Connemara’s right wing Paddy O’Toole kicked his side to a 9-3 home win over Banbridge – their sixth of the season.
Elsewhere, Skerries finished 10 points clear of trouble, thanks to a 33-13 win over Portadown and City of Derry claimed third place in the final standings with a 19-9 beating of Suttonians.
