The Combat Poverty Agency is hosting a cross-border conference in Dublin today to discuss the links between poverty and poor health.
More than 250 delegates representing health workers, NGOs and local government agencies from both sides of the border are due to attend the meeting.
Combat Poverty says people living in poverty are significantly more likely to have health problems and die an average of seven years earlier than other people.
It also says that, while progress has been made in reducing poverty in recent years, the health aspect of the problem is not being adequately addressed.
