A suicide car bomber struck near the Iraqi prime minister’s party headquarters today, injuring several people, police said.

The was no immediate word on the exact number of casualties. The large blast shook the city and sent a column of black smoke rising above the skyline.

Earlier this month, a suicide car bomber targeted the same offices of interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi’s party. Four people were killed and 25 injured in that attack.

Today’s blast was also not far from Baghdad’s Green Zone, the heavily fortified compound that houses the US Embassy and the offices of the Iraqi interim government.

Insurgents have frequently targeted the Green Zone district with mortar fire and have struck its main entrances with car bombs.
