Linas Selection may return to York after win

Linas Selection could return to York for the Great St Voltigeur Stakes next month after landing a game victory in the John Smith's Extra Smooth Silver Cup Handicap.

Mark Johnston’s progressive three-year-old followed up his win at Royal Ascot with a smooth victory against older horses.

Taking over from his pacemaking stablemate Hearthstead Wings, the heavily-backed 8-11 shot kept Balkan Knight at bay by a length, with last year’s winner Lost Soldier Three a length and a half further away third.

“He took the sting out of the others when he went for home. We’ll sit and think where to go next but he could come back here for the Voltigeur,” said Johnston.

“He’s in the St Leger but he’s just won a Listed handicap. He’s got to step up into Pattern company first before we can think about that.”

Gary Coffey, owner Renata Jacobs’ racing manager, added: “We’ve stepped him up in trip today to learn more about him and he saw it out well. He holds a Leger entry but obviously we’ll have to talk it over with Mark.”

Linas Selection is 6-1 with bet365 for the Leger which will also be held at York this year while Doncaster is being redeveloped.
