A new temporary bridge is due to open in Leenane, Co Galway, today following the collapse of the village's stone bridge during flooding a fortnight ago.

The temporary crossing, which is on the main Clifden to Westport road, was constructed this week.

The 180-year-old stone bridge was badly damaged after heavy rain in the area, leaving motorists facing an 80km round trip.

The new bridge will only be able to cope with one-way traffic.
