Monty Python’s famous television routines are heading for Broadway.
Producer Mike Nichols, who last year staged The Play What I Wrote based on old comedy sketches from Morecombe and Wise, is now turning his attention to Monty Python’s Flying Circus, reports the New York Post.
It quotes theatre sources as saying Nichols is bringing a compilation of the best of the Python sketches and songs to Broadway in the spring. Reports say he will draw material from the Python television shows as well as the films The Life Of Brian, The Holy Grail and The Meaning Of Life.
The show will be performed by a cast of young British and American comics, although no one is ruling out the possibility of guest appearances by some or all of original Pythons John Cleese, Eric Idle, Michael Palin and Terry Jones.
