U2 frontman and human rights activist Bono will be guest-editing British newspaper The Independent for a day, in conjunction with his anti-AIDS campaign Red.

The Irish megastar will unleash his talents on the publication on May 16, in a bid to encourage the corporate world to join the battle against disease in Africa.

Top-selling brands including Gap, Converse, American Express and Giorgio Armani have already signed up to back the initiative.

The Independent's editor-in-chief Simon Kelner says: "Bono has a unique insight into world affairs and, as guest editor, will produce a newspaper that, in the best tradition of The Independent, will be challenging, innovative and entertaining."
