Parents 'fail to explain everyday relevance of maths to children'

A new survey shows that 55% of Leaving Certificate students say their parents have never explained the everyday importance of mathematics to them.

A new survey shows that 55% of Leaving Certificate students say their parents have never explained the everyday importance of mathematics to them.

That is according to Engineers Ireland which carried out the study to coincide with Engineers Week underway today.

The quality of "maths understanding" amongst Irish students will be a key feature of Engineers Week.

Engineers Ireland has said maths is the foundation of a career in engineering but that its relevance spans way beyond that into everyday life.
