Met Éireann has predicted gale force winds and rainfall of between 20 to 30mm tomorrow and Thursday.

Leinster and Cork, Kerry and Waterford will be the worst affected by the heavy downpours.

Met Éireann said the monsoon-like weather would be at its worst from early tomorrow morning and will last until late on Thursday.

More than 1,000 properties in Dublin city were badly flooded last October when up to 90mm of rain fell.

David Rogers from Met Éireann said the band of rain would be moving northwards across the country, starting on the south coast late tonight, accompanied by strong winds.

He said it would feel particularly "raw and cold" across southern and eastern coasts.
