Ahern toasts landslide vote

The Taoiseach was elected on the first count in Dublin Central with almost 11,000 first preference votes.

Tony Gregory (Ind) is currently second, Nicky Kehoe of SF third, and Labour's Joe Costello fourth in this four-seat constituency.

Attorney General, Michael McDowell, has topped the poll in Dublin South East. The Progressive Democrat candidate polled 6, 093 first preference votes.

After the first count, Tom Crilly (WP), Norman Gray (Ind) and Shay Ryan (SWP) were eliminated.

Eoin Ryan (FF) is coming in second and John Gormley of the Greens third. Labour leader Ruairí Quinn came fourth with 4.032 first preference votes.

In Dublin South West, Charlie O'Connor of Fianna Fáil was elected after the fourth count. Sean Crowe of Sinn Féin was elected after the first count. Sean Crowe said his election was a massive endorsement for Sinn Féin.

In Dublin South, the Government Chief Whip, Seamus Brennan, has been elected on the first count after topping the poll.
