The North-West Tourism Authority has threatened legal action against Met-Eireann over what is calls biased and inaccurate weather forecasting.

Authority chairperson, Cllr Sean McEniff says the only time the region is mentioned is when there is rain spreading from the area.

He said national forecasts last week said there was rain throughout the country, when in fact it was sunny in the North West.

He said such reports does untold damage to the region's domestic tourism market. However, the Met Office has rejected the claim, saying they have weather stations around the country, but they can't always be right.

It added that it applies nationally and not just to the North West.

However, that response was not accepted by Cllr McEniff, who says Met Eireann is just clouding the matter.

He has warned the meteorological service to acknowledge the region in future, or he will create a hail of controversy.
