Gardaí have launched an investigation after a foetus was discovered in a car park.

The foetus, believed to be in its 18th week, was found in Ballfermot, central Dublin, just before 4pm yesterday.

Technical experts examined the scene and the foetus was taken to the city mortuary where a post-mortem examination was due to be carried out today.

Gardaí said they are concerned for the health of the mother, who may be in need of medical attention, and appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
