Gardaí remind motorists of new seatbelt offences
Motorists hitting Bank Holiday traffic today are being reminded that seven new penalty point offences have come into force this weekend, mostly to do with seatbelts.
Drivers will be penalised for allowing passengers under 17 years of age to travel without a seatbelt, while children under and over three must be properly restrained, and must not be placed in a rear-facing seat in the front of a vehicle.
Garda patrol vans will be out in force today to monitor driver behaviour.
Public transport options are set to be busy later today as people return home from their Bank Holiday break.
Irish Rail has been advising passengers all weekend to book their journeys in advance, as final figures are expected to show the network's carried more than 200,000 people during the three-day period.
