A child on a bike has died after a crash in County Offaly.

The 11-year-old boy and a car collided outside Moate on the Old Dublin to Galway Road at 9.15am today.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and traffic diversions are in place.

The road remains closed and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Tullamore garda station.
