€202m worth of fishing quotas have been delivered for Ireland in 2009.

Ministers and Government officials have reached a deal in Brussels this afternoon on the fish-catch quotas for next year.

The changes aim to protect stocks while maintaining a livelihood for fishermen.

There will be a cut in many of next year's fish catches for over-exploited mainstays, such as cod and hake.

Cod quotas will be cut by 25% in 2009 with the exception of the Celtic Sea south of Ireland.
