Minister of State, Tom Parlon, has launched the inaugural meeting of the National Flood Policy Review Group.
The group includes representatives from the Departments of Finance, Environment, Agriculture and the Marine, as well as the IFA, IBEC and local authorities.
The group will look at ways of responding to and preventing flooding in vulnerable parts of the country.
It will also look at the financial and social effects that flooding has on communities and households and it will draw up proposals to indicate how best the State should respond to different categories of flooding.
The group will also look at existing law and regulations covering flooding and it will identify strategies to manage any increase in the number of areas at risk.
The flood policy review group will also look at humanitarian aid schemes where such flooding occurs.
