Premiership: Hendrie hits back over Mills' 'pathetic' antics

Lee Hendrie has launched a scathing attack on Leeds' Danny Mills following their Elland Road bust-up.

Lee Hendrie has launched a scathing attack on Leeds' Danny Mills following their Elland Road bust-up.

The Villa midfielder has accused Mills of trying to get him sent off.

The Leeds defender went to ground after Hendrie shoved him in the face.

And Hendrie, who was booked for the incident, pulled no punches in his condemnation of Mills.

"It's pathetic that he tried to get another player sent off, a fellow professional - it was unbelievable," said Hendrie.

"But Danny Mills has got a reputation for it, and I don't agree with the way he has gone about things.

"All I tried to do was kick the ball out of play when it came over because there was someone injured, and as I have turned around he pushes me. I push him back, and he makes a meal of it.

"I did raise my hands, but it was handbags. Luckily enough the linesman has seen what's gone on and maybe he Mills should have got the booking because the way he reacted was absolutely unbelievable.

"Fellow pros should always look after each other.

"But it's no surprise he was then booked later on as well. He's got too much to say when it comes to things like that and maybe he should keep his mouth shut."

Meanwhile, Villa boss John Gregory confirmed he is to discipline Hendrie for his actions.

And the midfielder said he had "no complaints" with Gregory's decision to substitute him.

"It's a big game, with both teams at the top, and obviously there is going to be a bit of friction," added Hendrie.

"I was disappointed to be taken off so soon afterwards. But tempers were rising a bit - and the gaffer made his choice, thinking I might have got sent off.

"It was down to the incident with Mills again. He has made his decision, and I am not going to question that at all. But I am just disappointed with the way Mills reacted - it has spoiled my game."

The incident is likely to be reviewed by Premier League referees' officer Phillip Don.
