Cowen slams 'campaign' to undermine Taoiseach

Fianna Fáil's deputy leader Brian Cowen has said there is a campaign underway to undermine the Taoiseach.

He said there has been selective leaking taking place, and he is disappointed that the Tánaiste failed to make contact with Bertie Ahern in the past few days with any questions he may have.

Brian Cowen says the Taoiseach has the party's full confidence, and will now speak to his advisors before making a full statement on his affairs.

"What we have here is an unprecedented amount of premature disclosure, selective leaking, seeking to undermine this Taoiseach and this party during this election campaign."

"This party is going to stand up for itself and this party and this leader is going to take the opportunity to put their version of events across in the interim - before he goes to the Mahon Tribunal - so that the people will have a far more accurate picture and can be reassured and convinced of our man's good intentions and good faith in this matter," he said.
