A man in his 20s is recovering in hospital after being shot in the shoulder during an attack near Rathkeale in Co Limerick this morning.

A man in his 20s is recovering in hospital after being shot in the shoulder during an attack near Rathkeale in Co Limerick this morning.

The incident happened at a house in the Reen's Pike area of Ardagh shortly before 4am.

A number of other occupants were in the house, including elderly people and young children, but they were not hurt in the shooting.

The scene has been sealed off for technical examination and gardaí are also investigating whether a car found burned out on the Rathkeale bypass was linked to the attack.
