A 22-year-old man has been undergoing surgery after he was shot in Limerick overnight.

A 22-year-old man has been undergoing surgery after he was shot in Limerick overnight.

At approximately 2.40am, a call came through to Henry Street Garda Station in Limerick to report the sighting of a man carrying a gun in the Moyross area.

Moments later a second call came through to say a man had been found with a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen in Delmege Park in Moyross.

He was rushed to Limerick Regional Hospital where he is undergoing emergency surgery.

The man was reported to be in a stable condition prior to surgery.

The scene of the shooting in Moyross has been preserved for technical examination.

No-one has been arrested, and gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
