Queues warning in airport holiday exodus

More than 310,000 people are expected to travel through Dublin Airport over the June bank holiday, the airport authority said today.

More than 310,000 people are expected to travel through Dublin Airport over the June bank holiday, the airport authority said today.

More than 2,000 flights will be arriving and leaving from the airport, including 150 charter flights carrying holidaymakers to destinations such as Spain, Italy, Croatia and Portugal between Friday and Monday.

With queues up to 25 minutes predicted at the security checks, the DAA said people should arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before their departure time.

Additional security staff will be on duty over the weekend to help maintain the flow of passengers through the security checks, the DAA said.

The Customer Service summer task force will also be staffing the airport.

The authority is urging passengers to take a number of measures to ensure they get through the security process smoothly.

These include packing sharp objects in hold luggage, taking off shoes, coats and belts to go through the security check and putting identification tags on all bags.

The authority has also warned people not to bring wrapped gifts to the airport as they may have to be opened by security personnel.
