To Sender, beaten favourite in the Coventry Stakes last time out, will try to redeem his reputation with two races in the autumn.
Trainer John Gosden has earmarked a seven-furlong novice event at Sandown in September for the King’s Best colt, hopefully followed by a crack at a Group race in October.
The two-year-old, owned by Khalid Abdullah, could not act on the ground at Royal Ascot at York and trailed in 12th of 14 to Red Clubs.
However, connections have not lost faith in To Sender, who had made a pleasing debut when beating subsequent July Stakes winner Ivan Denisovich at Newbury in May.
Said Gosden: “He was unsuited by the ground at York. It was very greasy on top and hard underneath, then they had a shower before racing. Basically, his wheels spun and he’s a big horse.
“The plan is to bring him back on September 14 for a novice at Sandown over seven furlongs. He’s out of a Sadler’s Wells mare, so that trip should suit, and he’ll get a mile next year.
“If he wins that he’ll go for a Group race in October – I don’t know which one yet – and that will make it four runs for the year.”
