CSO: Outward journeys in July up by 99,000

In July 2005 there were 717,600 overseas trips by Irish residents, compared with 618,800 in July 2004, an increase of almost 99,000, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

In July 2005 there were 717,600 overseas trips by Irish residents, compared with 618,800 in July 2004, an increase of almost 99,000, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

Between January and July this year, there were 3,551,700 overseas trips by Irish residents, an increase of 458,200 on the January to July 2004 total of 3,093,500.

There were 781,200 overseas trips to Ireland in July 2005 compared with 754,200 in July 2004, an increase of 27,000.

Between January and July of this year, there were 3,876,200 overseas trips to Ireland, an increase of 148,000 on the first seven months of 2004.

The breakdown of visitors by area of residence shows an increase of 34,400 in the number of visitors from Great Britain in the first seven months of this year.

The number of visitors from other European countries grew by 145,200 in the same period.

Trips to Ireland by residents of North America fell by 11,400 and the number of visitors from other areas fell by 20,300, compared with January to July 2004.
