Ashley Cole insists Arsenal are not out of the title race despite their 4-2 defeat by Manchester United.

Ashley Cole insists Arsenal are not out of the title race despite their 4-2 defeat by Manchester United.

The England defender revealed the team were distraught after the match at Highbury but did not believe the defeat had ruled out their title aspirations despite being 13 points behind leaders Chelsea.

He told Sky Sports: “The lads were devastated.

“We wanted to win and keep the pressure on Chelsea.

“It is not over. Hopefully we can bounce back. We are still up for it.

“Chelsea have a bigger squad but we have just got to deal with it.”

Thierry Henry admits catching Chelsea is going to be a struggle but maintained the season did not just hinge on that one match.

He said: “It was a personal game. Manchester United and Arsenal is always difficult.

“But I said at the time that it didn’t change much. We have 13 games ahead of us.

“We wanted to win but at the end of the day Chelsea do not drop points and neither do Manchester United.

“It is not over yet. Let’s hope they can drop points.”

The Frenchman was quick to salute the influence of Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho while insisting the job undertaken by previous manager Claudio Ranieri is now bearing fruit.

He said: “Mourinho? He is special but you have to remember Ranieri was something before – don’t write that off. He tried to build something.

“Mourinho is amazing but things do not happen in one year.

“They are playing amazing football at the moment. We have been there.”

Meanwhile, captain Patrick Vieira admitted catching Chelsea would be a very demanding task but insisted the season was not over just because of one defeat.

He said: “It will be difficult now. There is still a long way to go because we are in the Champions League and the FA Cup.”
