The Taoiseach and British Prime Minister held talks this afternoon for the first time since the IRA decommissioned its arsenal.

Speaking afterwards, Bertie Ahern said the governments were determined to make as much progress as possible this side of Christmas, so they could work towards devolution some time next year.

Both leaders welcomed the crack-down by the Assets Recovery Agency on alleged IRA assets.

Tony Blair said it was important for building trust on all sides.

Mr Blair said: “For us and for our respective agencies, there isn't any no go area, there's no tolerance, there's no ambiguity about what is right and what is wrong.

“Anybody who is involved in criminal activity, from whatever part of the spectrum, or whatever organisation they come from, our agencies have got to get after them.”
