A group of retired nuns in Holland are opening their own internet cafe.

The sisters from the Mater Miseriacordiae convent in Tilburg got the idea after seeing a presentation on the web.

They asked for a internet course and 42 applied for the first lessons although there were only 10 places available.

The graduates, the oldest of which is 89, now know how to surf, download and e-mail on the five computers the home has installed in the library.

The other sisters are waiting for the next course, but can get help in the meantime from the web-educated nuns in the cafe.

Director J de Laat said: "It's a pleasant hobby and they can help each other. A lot of inhabitants are feeling useful again and that means a lot to them, even at their age."
