Leinster House to upgrade security after rising threat to TD

Leinster House is to beef up its security.

It is on foot of a "material escalation in the level of threat to a member".

The new measures will include a scanning system for all visitors, increased lighting and a limit of five visitors per member.

The Irish Times says it comes after a TD was allegedly confronted while walking to her car last week.

The Committee on Procedure and Privileges met Garda Supt Frank Clerkin, Deputy Supt Michael O’Sullivan and the captain of the guard at Leinster House to discuss proposals aimed at protecting TDs at their place of work.
