Independent candidate Catherine Murphy has been elected as Kildare's first female TD.

Independent candidate Catherine Murphy has been elected as Kildare's first female TD.

She was declared the winner of the seat by the Returning Officer without reaching the quota but with a total of 12,256 votes.

She overtook Fianna Fáil candidate Áine Brady thanks to a transfer of from Labour’s Paddy McNamara and Fine Gael’s Darren Scully.
