A campaign is being launched today to ensure the Government moves to tackle educational disadvantage facing children across the country.

Children will deliver a giant school report card to ministers warning them they must step up efforts to remove the disadvantages facing some children in the education system.

Barnardos, a children’s charity, said the Make The Grade campaign would mark the Government’s performance to date in six key education areas.

“We know that only one in 100 children from our catchment area will go to college, despite the county average being one in four,” a Barnardos project leader in Limerick said.

The campaign will outline the initiatives that need to be implemented to ensure all children in Ireland are given the chance to make the most of the opportunities that education offers.
