Ireland's ability to respond to a major terrorist attack is among a range of issues due to be discussed at the annual conference of the Chief Fire Officers' Association today.

International experts in the field are due to address the conference in Cavan on how best to deal with an attack or any other major incident that may occur.

Speaking beforehand, CFOA chairman Tony Gleeson said: "I don't think there's any evidence that there's a serious threat out there - it's a case of having a state of preparedness for things that we haven't experienced in the past."
