Ireland has had its warmest, driest and sunniest summer since 1995, with August being the third successive summer month with less rainfall than normal.
Met Éireann today revealed just 34mm of rain was recorded at Belmullet, just over a third of its normal reading for August.
Cork Airport also recorded 14.4 hours of daylight on the 7th, the longest day during the month since records started there in 1962.
The longest day of the summer was found at the end of July at Malin Head, with 15.8 hours of sunlight.
The National Meteorological Service’s monthly summary also reported it was a warmer than usual month all over the country, with temperatures almost a degree above normal.
The hottest day of the summer was enjoyed on July 19, in Co Meath, when a staggering 31 degrees centigrade was recorded.
There was a wide variation in the number of wet days across the country, with between seven and 11 measured in southern areas while Clones, Co Monaghan, had 20.
