Carlow's Murphy in race for fitness
Carlow midfield Brendan Murphy is fighting to be available for his side's Leinster SFC quarter-final replay against Meath in Tullamore on Saturday.
Murphy suffered concussion in the drawn encounter with the Royals last weekend and was taken to hospital. He is now a major doubt for the replay.
"Brendan got a bad bang on the back of his head during the match but he didn't show any signs of being concussed and played on," Carlow manager Luke Dempsey told the Irish Independent.
"Going home on the bus, he was very sick and started vomiting so we got him to Moydock in Carlow and he was transferred to Kilkenny. I've just been chatting to his brother, Brian, and he hopes to get good news."
Dempsey credited Murphy for producing an excellent performance in the drawn game before 10,171 spectators.
"Brendan was outstanding against Meath, especially considering there was so much spoiling on him. Every time he got a ball, he was either pulled or dragged.
"Remember, he got a harsh booking early on. I thought it was a fair shoulder he made. The booking put him under a lot of pressure for the rest of the game."
