GRA: Pay cuts are not an option

The Garda Representative Association says pay cuts for gardaí are not an option.

It made the statement in response to reports today suggesting eight cuts have been put forward in talks to cut the garda payroll by one billion euro.

These include a proposal for members to work an extra hour per shift, with others changes to public holiday pay and Sunday premium allowances.

The GRA says it is not about choice as gardaí cannot pay their loans and mortgages.

The proposed pay cuts will be discussed at a meeting of the association's central executive on Monday.
