Tim O’Leary has stepped down as acting IFA president with immediate effect but will continue in his role as deputy president.
This announcement came after motions of no confidence in both Tim O’ Leary and Jer Bergin were successfully defeated.
IFA national treasurer and returning officer Jer Bergin will take up the position of national chairman and chief spokesperson of IFA until the next president has been elected.
O’Leary has taken the decision to step down in order to avoid any conflict of interests in his own presidential election campaign.
O’Leary’s decision to step down was taken at a meeting of the IFA’s executive council on Tuesday.
It was at that same meeting where it was decided that Bergin would take up his new role.
