More than 90,000 hospital bed days lost due to delayed discharges
The Health Service Executive (HSE) is being criticised for more than 90,000 delayed discharges in the first half of this year.
The information has been supplied to Fianna Fáil's health spokesman, Billy Kelleher.
The HSE figures shows patients who are fit to leave hospitals and free up bed space are being forced to stay in acute hospitals because there is no access to appropriate step down care.
It follows revelations last week that a record almost 58,000 people were on trolleys in the first seven months of the year.
Billy Kelleher has said lost bed days are unjustifiable.
"It is extraordinary, we now find that 91,000 bed days have been lost in the first six months of this year in terms of patients being in a hospital when they are fit and well enough to being discharged," he said.
