Two men will appear in court in Co Westmeath today charged in connection with an attack on a Garda.

Two men will appear in court in Co Westmeath today charged in connection with an attack on a Garda.

The Garda - who is from the Longford-Westmeath Drug Unit - was stabbed during a planned search of a house in Athlone in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The two men - who are aged 17 and 20 - were arrested at the scene.

They will appear at a special sitting of Athlone District Court later today.
