A €10,000 reward is today being offered for information surrounding the reported death of a wallaby or small kangaroo after it was unleashed at a 30th birthday party recently.

A long-term supporter of the Animal Rights Action Network (ARAN) anonymously contacted the group to offer the cash for information leading to arrest and conviction.

The Australian national took action after hearing about the incident which took place at the Clarion Hotel in Liffey Valley in Dublin.

ARAN are calling on members of the public and those who attended the party to contact the organisation.

"Animal abusers are cowards," said ARAN director John Carmody. "They take their issues out on the most defenceless beings available to them. In this case, with laws being so weak in Ireland to protect those most vulnerable, we’re hoping that people will now come forward with information that will convict the cowards who treated such a vulnerable, terrified and tormented animal with such recklessness and neglect.

The anonymous Australian national said: "Most people in Australia are horrified to hear of what has happened, this will no doubt leave Ireland with a bad reputation in my country.

"Please help us find these people."
