An illegal plant with the capacity to launder €5m worth of fuel a year has been found by gardaí in Co Cavan.

Fuel laundering operation uncovered in Cavan

An illegal plant with the capacity to launder €5m worth of fuel a year has been found by gardaí in Co Cavan.

Gardaí and Customs officers uncovered the plant in a yard behind a private house in Whitegate in Virginia.

It is estimated the facility had the capacity to launder about 10m litres of fuel a year.

One man was arrested and later released.

Gardaí also seized two vans, bleaching earth, a compressor and a large quantity of laundered fuel.
