A fully fit Paula Radcliffe will compete for the first time since her unforgettable Flora London Marathon success in April when she competes in theMonaco IAAF Golden League Meeting on July 19.
Radcliffe confirmed this morning she willrace over 3,000 metres at the Herculis meeting - butit could prove to be her only track race of the summer apart from the Commonwealth Games and European Championships.
‘‘I will run over 5,000m at the Commonwealths and possibly do that distance alongside the 10,000m in the Europeans,’’ saidRadcliffe. ‘‘But the ‘10’ in Munich remains my top priority event.
‘‘After that I haven’t got anything planned and will probably start my preparations for the Chicago Marathon,’’ added Radcliffe, whowill be the top attraction at theUnitedStates venue on October 13 when running only hersecond ever marathon.
Illness forced Radcliffe - normally a maximum points scorer - to miss last month’s European Cup final where missing her contribution, the British women’s team fought a constant relegation battle until the last event.
This year’s World Cross Country gold medallist then pulled out of the Sheffield Grand Prix meeting on June 30 still lacking racing fitness.
Now back on a full training schedule, Radcliffe feels she is ready to commit herself at the highest
level, although despite medical tests she is still not quite sure how to describe the sickness she has suffered from.
‘‘It has been a combination of an infection in my throat and stomach. Generally I have felt run down,’’ said Radcliffe. ‘‘But now I feel fine and have managed to pull my training together again.’’
After visiting her physio Gerard Hartmann in Ireland after after her brilliant win in aworld record time for a women-only marathon in London, Radcliffe has spent all of her time at her training base in the French Pyrenees.
Now tomorrow she plans returning to Limerick to see Hartmann for what equates in athletic terms to another MOT before Monaco, whereshe will contesta track race for the firsttime since last September.
Radcliffe said: ‘‘I’ll see Gerard for a few days then go to Loughborough,’’ where she and husband, former British 1,500m international Gary Lough, live.
‘‘Thenafter the Europeansit will be back to Font Romeau to prepare for Chicago.’’
