Gardaí in Co Galway believe the body found in Clifden Bay over the weekend may be that of a 28-year-old British tourist who has been missing for two weeks.

The body was found on an island in the bay on Saturday by a local fisherman.

A post mortem examination last night failed to definitively identify the dead man.

However, gardaí believe the remains may be those of a British tourist who has been missing since going for a late-night swim with a female companion on June 5.

The woman's body was recovered the following day.
