The home of an elderly Limerick woman was targeted by feuding factions this morning for the second time in recent weeks.
At least one shot was fired at the front door of an apartment at Cornmarket Row in the city at around 2.30am this morning.
No-one was injured in the latest attack on the home of a grandmother of members of a southside criminal gang.
Last month, a training grenade was thrown through a ground-floor window of the same home in what gardaí believe was a feud-related incident. The Army Bomb Disposal Squad was called in to deal with the device, which is normally used for military training.
Gardaí at Henry Street are also investigating a separate incident in which shots were fired at a house in Crecora Avenue in Ballinacurra Weston early today.
Tensions between feuding factions in the city have escalated in the past week following the shooting of a 16-year-old boy in the O’Malley Park estate.
The teenager, whom it is understood was not the intended target, was shot twice in the leg in a hail of gunfire from a semi-automatic weapon last Thursday night.
However, it is understood the intended target of the gunmen was in fact a man with links to a southside gang who was sitting in a nearby car with a young child.
Gardaí said the reckless incident demonstrated a blatant disregard for human life.
Two houses on the northside of the city were targeted by gunfire several hours after this incident in what gardaí believe may have been reprisal attacks by feuding factions.
