The accident happened on the N24 Pilltown bypass at around 1am this morning, when a car collided with a second vehicle on the westbound carriageway of the N24 Piltown By Pass near Fiddown.

The second vehicle failed to remain at the scene.

The driver and only occupant of the car, a man in his 20s, was seriously injured. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. His body has since been removed to University Hospital Waterford for a post mortem examination.
