Foreign Affairs Minister Micheal Martin is travelling to Paris this afternoon for an emergency EU meeting to discuss the Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip.

The meeting has been arranged to try to agree a co-ordinated EU stance on the violence.

At least 360 Palestinians, including large numbers of civilians and police officers, have been killed in Israeli air attacks on Gaza over the past four days.

Five Israelis have also been killed in cross-border rocket attacks by Palestinian militants.

The Irish Government has already condemned the actions of both sides, particularly the disproportionate use of military force by the Israelis.
